About Richie Havens

-He was born in Brooklyn, NY.
-He was partly of Native American (Blackfoot indian descent
-His Woodstock appearance in 1969 became very famous; as the festival’s first performer,
he held the crowd for nearly three hours!

“I’d already played every song I knew and I was stalling, asking for more guitar and mic, trying to think of something else to play and then it just came to me..”

Havens was told to continue playing, because the artists who were scheduled to play
after him were delayed.
..They could not reach the festival location with highways at a virtual standstill..
The legendaric Festival created a massive traffic jam and a state of emergency was declared.

Richie Havens educated young people about ecological issues and co-founded the Northwind Undersea Institute,an oceanographic children’s museum on City Island in the Bronx

He performed at the inauguration of president Bill Clinton.

I don’t get sick. I can’t afford to get sick..
My right wrist is connected to the left foot. You know, if the left foot doesn’t work, the right wrist doesn’t work, and that’s really the truth.
R.Havens

Freedom

Freedom, freedom
Freedom, freedom

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long way from my home

Freedom, freedom
Freedom, freedom

Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone
Sometimes I feel like I’m almost gone
A long, long, long, way, way from my home

Clap your hands, clap your hands
Clap your hands, clap your hands
Hey, yeah

I got a telephone in my bosom
And I can call him up from my heart
I got a telephone in my bosom
And I can call him up from my heart

When I need my brother, brother
When I need my mother, mother
Hey, yeah
